Summary:

Conducts Flight Operations in company owned aircraft for purpose of testing new, prototype, experimental, modified, and production avionics equipment to evaluate factors such as airworthiness, performance, systems operation, and design as well as corporate and marketing support as required by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare and file flight plans, complete preflight inspections, validate CG computations, ensure aircraft is properly equipped and manned for various flight test profiles.
  • Operate and observe avionics equipment and systems during all flights to evaluate equipment performance.
  • Collaborates with engineering and certification personnel to analyze test data.
  • Assists engineering product managers in preparing master flight plans for testing purposes.
  • Attends certification and engineering meetings on an as needed basis.
  • Conducts demonstration flights with customers, government officials, and FAA personnel to exhibit avionics performance and system capabilities.
  • Functions as Pilot in Command for Corporate and Marketing initiatives.
  • Serves as the Manager of Flight Operations and supervises aircraft operations personnel.
  • Maintains aircraft schedule and coordinates with all departments for use of aircraft assets.
  • Coordinates with TSA and Tucson Airport Authority for security procedures on airport property.
  • When not involved in flight operations, the individual is required to be available on site during normal
    working hours.
  • Is responsible for Flight Department and Operations budget.
  • Annual travel up to 25%.

Education/Experience:


Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in flight test programs desired. Strong consideration will be given for background involving avionics specific test experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook for email and be knowledgeable of the Internet.

Certificates and Licenses:

Pilot ratings: ATP with current instrument qualification required. Multi Engine Land rating required. Multi Engine Instructor rating or past history of ME instruction is desired.

Must pass 1st Class medical exam annually.

Flight Hours:

5000 hours total flight time required of which a minimum of 1000 hours multi engine jet and a minimum of 2000 hours multi engine turbo prop experience is necessary.

A minimum of 500 hours pilot in command for King Air aircraft is desired.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises up to three employees in the Flight Operations department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
