Tucson, Arizona – September 16, 2004 - Universal Avionics Systems Corporation announced today that Duncan Aviation successfully completed ground & flight testing for a four display suite of EFI-890R display panels, plus MFD-640 and has received Federal Aviation Administration STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) approval.
The STC of the EFI-890R display in the Challenger is yet another success for us,” said Grady Dees, Director of Engineering Services, Universal Avionics Systems Corporation. “This is the first installation approval of the display system in a Part 25 aircraft. This approval supplements our original STC in our company’s Part 23 B-350 King Air. With the EFI-890R, pilots can show moving navigation maps, weather, terrain, traffic, and real-time video along with standard flight displays and aircraft operational information.”
The EFI-890R installation and certification was conducted at the Duncan Aviation facility, located in Battle Creek, Michigan, on the Challenger 601-3A-ER aircraft. The installation includes Triple UNS-1F, TAWS, Universal Cockpit Display, UniLink and provisions for dual Vision-1 synthetic vision systems. Approval of the synthetic vision displays on the EFI-890R is expected later this year. The displays are fully integrated with the Collins FCC-86/APS-85 flight director / autopilots and ADC-86 air data computers maintaining the prior RVSM approval. Triple LASEREFs, Collins TWR-850 radar and TCAS II are also integrated with the displays.
Don Berlin, VP of Marketing comments: “The success of the EFI-890 program represents a significant development in the level of technology at Universal Avionics,” Mr. Berlin went on to say, “In spite of the addition of two Vision-1 Computers, the 890R upgrade reduced the D.C. power consumption by 6 amps and there was a weight savings of over 26 lbs.”
The EFI-890R product development began in late 1999. It is marketed for forward and retrofit applications. The EFI-890R has an 8.9-inch diagonal display for Primary Flight Display (PFD) and Navigation Display (ND) applications and supports existing analog and digital aircraft systems. The EFI-890R has superior sunlight readability and is available in 2-, 3- and 4-Unit suites with a 3-year product warranty.
