Universal Avionics InSight™ Display System Selected by MC2 for Falcon 50 Upgrade

NextGen EFIS Upgrade Replaces Legacy CRT Displays and Modernizes Aircraft with Capabilities for FANS 1/A+ and Data Comm

Tucson, Arizona - June 17, 2021 – Universal Avionics’ (UA) InSight integrated flight deck solution has been selected by Authorized Dealer Mid-Canada Mod Center (MC2) for a Falcon 50 NextGen upgrade. MC2 chose the InSight retrofit flight deck solution to modernize the aircraft with NextGen capabilities for FANS 1/A+ and Data Comm, and to replace the legacy CRT displays.

The Falcon 50 InSight installation includes four UA EFI-1040 LCD Displays, two UNS-1Fw SBAS-FMSs, and two Touch EFIS Control Display Units (ECDU). The installation also includes UA’s Data Communications package with the UniLink™ UL-801 Communications Management Unit with ATN B1 capability, and KAPTURE™ Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) with internal RIPS. FAA and Transport Canada STCs for the first installation phase are expected in the Fourth Quarter of 2021. A planned Phase 2 of the installation will add engine interface.

“The selection of InSight as an upgrade for the Falcon 50 is another great example of bringing existing business jets into the frontline of technology in a cost effective way,” said Dror Yahav, Universal Avionics CEO. “We value our long relationship with MC2, a company which strives to always deliver an excellent solution to the customer,” he added.

“Replacing the legacy electro-mechanical components with modern electronic displays and control systems will strengthen this aging Falcon 50’s situational awareness and reduce maintenance costs," said Bill Arsenault, President, Mid-Canada Mod Center. “We chose Universal Avionics’ InSight Display System to future-proof the flight deck with features like FANS/CPDLC and Data Comm. In our experience, these upgrades mirror what OEMs are installing in today’s new aircraft—at a reasonable cost. We and ADS, our dedicated certification team, are pleased to have this opportunity to work with UA on this project.”

The InSight Display System offers the Falcon 50 a new set of capabilities including 3D SVS, advanced interactive digital maps, embedded electronic charting, high-resolution airport maps, intuitive control and input for enhanced crew interactivity, and increased reliability. InSight also offers lowered aircraft weight, an extremely high MTBF/MTBUR system design, and the ability to predict maintenance costs with reliable, state-of-the-art hardware.

InSight Display System integration with the UA SBAS-FMS and UniLink UL-801 CMU provides Falcon 50 operators a path to meet current and future NextGen and SESAR mandates and capabilities: ATN B1, ADS-B Out, CPDLC / CPDLC DCL, Data Communications, FANS 1/A+, and SBAS / LPV. The 4-display InSight solution is also the first building block in preparing the Falcon 50 flight deck for other systems such as UA’s ClearVision™ Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) with SkyLens™ Head-Wearable Display, Interactive SVS (i-SVS), additional display options for engine indication, and more.
